BIO
ABOUT ME
Tanner Spears is a Houston, TX-based singer/songwriter whose music reflects a deep connection to family, faith, and life’s defining moments. Growing up in the then-small town of Frisco, Texas, Tanner was inspired by a family rich in musical talent, including his brother, Ronny Spears, a renowned singer/songwriter, and his Big Band leader grandfather, Harvey Anderson. A natural lefty, Tanner taught himself to play a right-handed guitar upside down and backwards. His musical journey began when a broken hand sidelined his high school baseball season and led him to the guitar.
While attending Texas A&M, Tanner was often found entertaining friends with his guitar around a fire pit or wherever a good time could be found. Legend has it, Don Ganter, the owner of the infamous Dixie Chicken, tossed Tanner, his brother Ronny, and lifelong friend Byron Dowd a free T-shirt during a picking session on the back porch one Sunday afternoon. Don shared that the last time he witnessed such musical talent, he’d made the mistake of running the young players off—later discovering they were Robert Earl Keen and Lyle Lovett!
After building a successful construction business, raising two daughters, and enjoying 24 years of marriage to his best friend, Holly, Tanner returned to music in 2022, diving headfirst into songwriting and performing. His songs draw from life’s beautiful and challenging moments, blending his country roots with a touch of southern rock. Influenced by music greats like The Band, Eagles, Willie Nelson, Chris Stapleton, and Steve Earle, Tanner’s music carries a timeless quality rooted in storytelling.
In 2024, Tanner joined forces with a group of friends and fellow musicians to form a cover band, now called Derecho. The band has had the privilege of sharing the stage with music legends such as Robert Earl Keen, Diamond Rio, and Mark Chesnutt.
Tanner’s debut 6-song EP, Glow, was recorded at the legendary Audio Dallas with Paul Osborn and produced by Byron Dowd & Tyler Withrow. Set for release in 2025, the album has been a fun and rewarding project that allowed Tanner to reconnect with old friends and make new ones, showcasing the power of music to bring people together.
For Tanner, music is more than entertainment- it’s the frame around life’s most powerful memories. With songs that reflect his life experiences, Tanner hopes to connect with listeners in a way that leaves a lasting impression.
